Design Critique: Amber Murphy Photography

Designers

Don’t you just love it when you come across a beautiful site? Amber Murphy Photography was a link I stumbled across on facebook, as a friend of a friend. I don’t know Amber at all, but her site is gorgeous – great colors, design, and branding.

Color Integration

I feel like I should use a more flowery, romantic word for this because of the site we’re looking at, but that’s exactly what’s happening. The colors used – pink, green and orange – wouldn’t normally be used together, but it’s amazing what you can do with different shades.

┬áIf you click through the site, you’ll find that every portion has been integrated with these colors, including the social media buttons, the three social links on the home page (above), and of course headlines and hr splits.

Background & Layout

Finding the perfect background for your site can be difficult. It can completely change the feel of your site, so it’s pretty important. This background gives the site a warm welcoming feeling, like a neighborhood where everyone knows each other.

I’ve talked about the standard layout of links, large image, 3 smaller images. The logo on the top in the middle is nice for a designer, since you don’t have dead space to fill to the right of the logo. This isn’t a good reason for putting the logo in the middle, though. A good reason would be to draw attention to the logo since it is larger and more detailed – exactly what this logo is.

It’s a beautiful site! Hope you enjoyed looking as much as I did!

  • Hi there! Do you know if they make any plugins to protect against hackers?
I’m kinda paranoid about losing everything I’ve worked hard on.
    Any recommendations?

I’d recommend Sucuri – it’s really popular. Jetpack still has a serious flaw, so if you’re using it, uninstall it. In addition, good passwords are vital.
