The WordPress Plugins You’ve Got to Install Before You Launch Your Site

So your WordPress website’s done, it looks beautiful, and is ready to launch. But before you pronounce it done, there are few plugins you’ll want to install.



There’s nothing more terrible than having your site replaced with a black “hacked by…” screen. While there’s a lot you can do to make your site more secure, Sucuri provides a nice, free option for monitoring and protecting your website. You can set up to get notices when things change, “harden” certain areas of your website, and scan it for possible malware.

Website Statistics


So maybe you haven’t hired anyone to help with Search Engine Optimization or even know how to read website stats yet. Doesn’t matter. Installing a way to see what pages are popular and where people are going on your website now, will set you up for using that information later. Of course install Google Statistics (Google Analytics Dashboard for WP), and any other statistics platform you use. I use StatCounter for easier-to-read statistical information.



If you allow comments on your website, you’re going to want Akismet. Trust me on this one. Even fairly unknown websites can get a massive influx of spam comments after launching, so regardless of how big or small, get Akismet installed.

Again, even if you don’t know much about Search Engine Optimization, you’ll want to get this installed. This allows keywords and specific descriptions for your pages and posts. It’s got a ton of options to customize, most fairly easy to understand.

An Automatic Backup


There are a lot of options for automatically backing up your WordPress site. If you’re just getting started, Online Backup for WordPress is easy to set up and manage. If you’re looking at backing up multiple sites, InfiniteWP is a fantastic plugin. Regardless which one you go with, make sure you’ve got a way to automatically backup both the database and the files.
